The latest update on the implementation of the Low Rise medium Density Housing Code. According to an article published in the St George and Sutherland Shire Leader written by Murray Trembath, it appears that the Sutherland Shire Council has been able to attain a last minute reprieve from the legislation.
Mayor Carmel Pesce, General Manager Manjeet Grewal and Cronulla MP and Attorney General Mark Speakman met with Planning Minister Rob Stokes where they showed him details of approvals over the last five years that they believed demonstrated sufficient housing diversity.
It is believed that the Planning Minister has given his in principle support to exclude Sutherland Shire from the legislation. The council still needs to make a formal application for the code to be amended.
